# picking a favorite

no code from this stage survives except where a code/ folder sits next to this file. these are the notes as they were written in the transcript.

## message 6

> which one do you like more? and which is more performant?
> keep that one, then port to using llvm ir so that it can be platform independent

**summary:** no reply was sent at the time. the llvm port was dropped when message 7 changed direction. the question was answered at the start of the reply to message 7: the hybrid was the favorite because it kept the vm's semantics exact. the plain compiler was slightly faster on code that never rewrites itself, but it silently ran stale code once anything did. the zygote beats both.
